What is a Country Tightwad?

I am a  Country Tightwad.  But what does that mean?  Well, a Country Tightwad is actually hard to describe.  Being a tightwad is more a mindset than it is an actual lifestyle, so it’s a breed that is hard to stereotype.  But I’ll take my best shot!  Here’s how I see it.

A tightwad, particularly a Country Tightwad, is a person who:

  • Is frugal, but not a cheapskate.
  • Is a saver, but not a miser.
  • Believes in “cash on the barrel head.”
  • Has more money than he/she appears to have.
  • Recycled stuff before recycling became cool.
  • Actually fixes things when they break, instead of buying something new.
  • Likes to grow food, preserve food, and eat food.
  • Will invest time in something worthwhile that will provide savings in the long run.
  • Despises debt.
  • Likes what he already has.
  • Prefers the simple life.

I guess that’s about it.  If you have any other suggestions, feel free to e-mail me.

This site will chronicle my personal Country Tightwad journey.  But I will welcome any and all tightwad ideas.  Just e-mail me with your ideas and pictures, and I’ll be happy to post your story and/or recommendations here.  It will be fun to share the journey.

Enjoy!
