I am a Country Tightwad. But what does that mean? Well, a Country Tightwad is actually hard to describe. Being a tightwad is more a mindset than it is an actual lifestyle, so it’s a breed that is hard to stereotype. But I’ll take my best shot! Here’s how I see it.
A tightwad, particularly a Country Tightwad, is a person who:
- Is frugal, but not a cheapskate.
- Is a saver, but not a miser.
- Believes in “cash on the barrel head.”
- Has more money than he/she appears to have.
- Recycled stuff before recycling became cool.
- Actually fixes things when they break, instead of buying something new.
- Likes to grow food, preserve food, and eat food.
- Will invest time in something worthwhile that will provide savings in the long run.
- Despises debt.
- Likes what he already has.
- Prefers the simple life.
I guess that’s about it. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to e-mail me.
This site will chronicle my personal Country Tightwad journey. But I will welcome any and all tightwad ideas. Just e-mail me with your ideas and pictures, and I’ll be happy to post your story and/or recommendations here. It will be fun to share the journey.
Enjoy!
